Five days of Yang-style Tai Chi, sound healing and quiet, in a garden villa on the shore of Qiandao Lake. Twelve people at a time. No phones at dinner, no schedule to perform for — just practice, sleep, good food, and water.
Garden Villa Collection was not built as a hotel. Our founder, Jessie Li, spent twenty years travelling — 102 countries — before she built this place, and she built the thing she had been looking for and rarely found: somewhere quiet enough to actually practise, with people who know what they are doing, and food that is simple and good.
So the retreat is deliberately small. Twelve guests, usually each in their own room. Two practice sessions a day. Everything else — meals, walks, tea, silence — is arranged so that the practice has somewhere to land.
Roughly what a day looks like. Nothing is compulsory except showing up.
Tai Chi in the garden or the hall, depending on weather. Standing work first, then the form.
Congee, seasonal vegetables, tea. Quiet — most people don't talk much at breakfast by the second day.
Form correction, breath, or a sitting practice. This is where the actual learning happens.
A long break. Sleep, read, walk, do nothing.
Tea ceremony, flower arrangement, or walking in the hills. Rotates by day.
Slower. Form review, or standing, depending on the group.
Shared table. This is where people start talking.
Bowls, in the dark, thirty to forty minutes. Most people fall asleep.
Our Tai Chi comes from the lineage of Mr. Li Chuanzhong, sixth-generation inheritor of the Yang-style tradition. Classes are led by his inner-discipline teaching team.
Practice is taught the traditional way — repetition, correction by hand, and patience. Beginners are genuinely welcome; so are people who have practised for years.
Teaching is in Chinese. Tell us your group's language needs when you enquire and we will tell you honestly what support we can arrange.
Our 2027 season opens in March. The property completes a light renovation within this year, so all 2027 dates are confirmed after final inspection. We are taking reservations now.
